Changing your name can be a lengthy process, depending on the state, whereas others are more technologically advanced.
Before you begin, make sure to have a copy of your marriage license/certificate or divorce decree on hand to email, upload, or even mail, as documentation of the name change. Some states may also take a driver's license as an alternative type of documentation.
NOTE: The majority of states will NOT allow you to update your name during the renewal process.
