How to get a Genetic Counseling License in Utah

Utah accepts paper or online applications!

Overview:

When applying for the Utah Genetic Counseling license, you have the option of either doing it by paper copy or doing it online. Utah has a quick turn around too, with some licenses being issued in as little as three days! You need to have all required items in for a turn around that fast, but it is possible!

Difficulty: - pretty simple overall, no background check, just include your transcript and an ABGC Certification Verification!

Required Items:

Completing the Online Application:

  1. From Utah's Website, under "Licensing" select "Apply Online" (If you'd prefer to apply on paper, click "Apply manually or in-person" to download the PDF instead.)

  2. “Register a Person”, and use your birthdate and SSN to verify that you don't already have a license in Utah.CleanShot-2023-04-17-at-11.12.23.png

  3. Fill out your information correctly, to create a Username and Password.

  4. Once registered, return to the homepage to log in.

  6. License Type Selection: select Genetic Counselor for both Profession and License Type/CleanShot-2022-07-20-at-13.34.03.png

  7. Instructions: hit “Continue”

  8. Verify Personal Information:

    • The system will display the information you used to register. Verify the information is correct and add any information needed in empty fields.

    • Answer the questions about Citizenship Information at the bottom of the page.

  9. Qualifying Questions: Read the legal questions carefully and answer truthfully. Be prepared to explain any "yes" answers and provide supporting documentation.

  10. Attachments: Upload any of the applicable documents requested, including ABGC certification

  11. Summary: Review the information you just entered. We recommend printing/saving this page for documentation.

  12. Submit and pay for the application.

  13. Submit a graduate transcript to the board by mail or email. The transcript must be sent directly to to the board by your graduate school (cannot be uploaded to the site by you).

  14. Request verification of your ABGC certificate be sent to the board through your ABGC account.
