What you'll need:
Verification of another state licensure (if applicable)
Process:
Register for an account. Click on the blue "Register for an individual" button on the home page. Once completed, sign into your account.
Start Application. Start by clicking on "Apply for a License" button. In the dropbox on the next page, choose "Health" under Category. Then select "Genetic Counselor" in the License Types.
Choose Application Type. You'll be given three types of applications. Once you select which application, it will begin the process:
Experience Waiver: For genetic counselors who were grandfathered in and started practicing before the existence of ABGC certification.
Exam Application: For genetic counselors with NO license making the Wisconsin license their first.
Reciprocity Application: For genetic counselors with other licenses.
The rest of this tutorial will detail the steps for the Reciprocity Application.
Fill out Personal Information. We suggest marking the box to withhold street address and other information from large lists.
Add School Information. Your masters degree is the only information required.
Fill out Veteran's Fee Waiver Request.
Complete License History. For the top section, check the box for EACH state you are currently licensed in or were licensed in and then make sure to uncheck the box for "None". Another section will appear.
For the bottom section, licensed "by exam" means first license issued after ABGC exam. In this case, you will only need to mark one.
Answer Declaration questions.
Sign Attestation with digital signature.
Pay the application fee with a credit or debit card. You can download the receipt once the payment goes through.
Request verification of your ABGC certificate be sent to the board through your ABGC portal (instructions here).
Upload state verification(s). Luckily, Wisconsin will accept the free license verifications that you can download from a states website in lieu of requesting them to be sent directly from each board. They are also approving applications with only one uploaded state verification; however, this is subject to change.
Download a license verification for any of your current licenses (verification websites available here) and upload it to this website.
You will need your application number beforehand which can be found in your portal. Click on "Check Application Status" and it will be the number listed under "Application No."
All done!!🙌🏼 The turnaround time is 1-2 weeks, to which you should receive an email notification when the license has been issued. Note, a copy of your license can be downloaded from the portal under "My Approved Licenses".
