Overview:
Renewing a license in Utah is done online. Luckily for your busy schedule, Utah has one of the simplest renewal processes (once you get past the account creation portion). It's so simple you probably won't even need these instructions😉

Renewal Date: Sept 30 of even numbered years

Difficulty: ⏳ 1 out of 4 hourglasses.

Timeline: This one usually takes 10 minutes or less to complete. You can easily sneak it in during your morning coffee or lunch break.

Price: $138 renewal fee (paid online)

Late Fee: $20

State Contacts:
Website:

Address: Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing, PO Box 146741, Salt Lake City, UT 84114-6741
Email: doplweb@utah.gov
Phone: (801) 530-6628

What you'll need:

  • Current Driver's license or government photo ID

  • Must have completed 40 hours of continuing education.

Process:

  1. Sign in to UT website. If you haven't already created an account, click on "Create an Account" and follow the instructions.

Once you log in, you will be taken to a screen which will confirm your name. Click "Continue" to go onto the next page, where you should see a dashboard.

Majority of the time the license number associated with the genetic counselor already shows on this dashboard; however, if yours does not appear, click on "Don't see your license?"

Input your license number and registration code from the renewal notice emailed to you earlier. The page will refresh and your license info should now appear in the dashboard.

Begin renewal by selecting the three action dots in the license box. Then select "Renew".

  2. Review contact information. If you need to update any information, select "No" in answer to the question.

  3. Answer Questions about citizenship and government ID.

If you select "Yes" to the question about a driver's license, three additional fields will appear for your driver's license information. Photocopy of your license is not required.

But if you select "No", you can then choose to upload another form of government ID.

  4. Answer legal questions

  5. Use electronic signature on affidavit page.

  6. Pay the renewal fee with a credit or debit card. An immediate downloadable receipt will not be available for you but instead will be emailed to you. Make sure you gave Utah a working email address at the beginning of the renewal.

  7. Upload renewed license to Elsie. A copy of the license will be emailed to you upon approval of the renewal (within 24 hours).

Tips and Tricks:

  • It takes 24 hours for Utah's verification website to update your license with a new expiration date.

  • This site seems to be picky about usernames. We find that more unique usernames with at least one number will be accepted when creating an account.

  • If you need another copy of a receipt or the license, you can download either by clicking on the three action dots. There you can select to download either the receipt or license. Note, you will need to give the system a few days after a renewal for the changes to be reflected in these downloads.
