Overview: Illinois is one of ten states who requires a specific training course along with CEU courses, to qualify for a renewal. Make sure to closely follow the instructions below and complete both training courses before starting the renewal.
Renewal Date: Jan 31st every odd-numbered years
Difficulty: ⏳⏳ 2 out of 4 hourglasses. The renewal website for Illinois is not challenging, it's just the preparation required before one can renew is what makes it more difficult.
Timeline: The renewal process is relatively easy, about 15 minutes. More time is spent on completing the required training courses.

What you'll need:
Complete 1 hour course on sexual harassment and 1 hour of implicit bias training. Refer to our page on special training requirements for a list of websites to find an applicable course. Make sure you receive a certificate of completion.
Completed 30 hours of continuing education
NOTE: First renewal does not require any CEUs.
Process:
Sign in to Illinois portal. Click on "Online Services" in the Menu bar and select "Create/Continue a Renewal". Then click "Start" to begin.
Personal information: Review contact information and answer questions. Note, the address shown is public though on the verification website only the city and state are given.
Inactive Status: Answer "No" to inactive your license. Inactivating a license means you will no longer be able to practice in that state. Be careful, and make sure to answer this question carefully.
Continuing Education: Answer "Yes" if you have completed the CEU requirements along with the two training courses.
Child Support & Other Disclosure Questions - Answer questions accordingly.
Review summary and click " Proceed to Payment".
Pay the renewal fee. You can download a receipt by clicking on "Print Statement".
Once the renewal has been approved, you will receive an email notification directing you where to download a copy of your new license.
