Overview:
Though the initial application is completed through the mail, the renewal process for Rhode Island is actually done online. Keeping with their simplistic formula, the renewal process is straightforward and quick to accomplish.
Renewal Date: Initial issue date every two years
Difficulty: ⏳ 1 out of 4 hourglasses.
Timeline: This one usually takes 10 minutes or less to complete. You can easily sneak it in during your morning coffee or lunch break.
Price: $170 renewal fee + $4 service fee (paid online)

What you'll need:
Registration number (if not previously registered for portal)
Must have completed 50 hours of continuing education.
Process:
Sign in to RI website using user id and password.
NOTE: If you do not have an account yet, you'll need to register which is only a few extra steps. Click on “Register a Person” in the top left corner.
Under "License Renewal", put in your license number and registration code emailed to you by RI. If you haven't received it, email doh.elicenses@health.ri.gov to request it. Once you click "Search" you will be taken to a new page where you can create a user name and password. Then click “Register”. (Hint: you can save your login info in your Elsie password manager for safe keeping!)
Now you're ready to start!! Go back to the login page and use the newly created user name and password to enter the site.
In the top left corner, click “Renew License”. On this page it will list all the documents and items needed for the renewal. Click “Continue” in the yellow banner near the bottom of the page.
Review contact information. This info will all be private and is only used to contact you with renewal reminders and to send updated licenses. Please use your mailing address here.
When you click "Continue", the page will update to a different view. Confirm your address is correct again, then click "Complete" to move forward.
Update or add practice location. FYI, this address will be made public on the license verification website. We suggest using your employer's official address.
Answer Questions about any legal issues and CEU requirements. Make sure you've completed at least 50 hours to be able to answer "Yes".
IMPORTANT: You MUST click "Save Answers" before clicking on "Complete" and moving to the next page
Review summary and click "View Fees" to pay the renewal fee.
Pay the renewal fee with a credit or debit card. You can download the receipt once the payment goes through or wait for the receipt to be emailed to you.
Upload renewed license to Elsie. A copy of the license will be emailed to you upon approval of the renewal (within 24 hours). You will also receive a physical copy in the mail within 8 weeks of the renewal.
Tips and Tricks:
It takes 24 hours for Rhode Island's verification website to update your license with a new expiration date.
